In previous post was saw how handful the Gartner magic quadrants can be when learning and researching particular technology or industry trend:

• New 2012 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Cloud Infrastructure as a Service (Iaas)

Below is an another comparison chart, this time targeting vendor network equipment in data centers.

By the way I was investigating this because of the networks vendor selection on this cloud hardware deployment calculator (How to estimate hardware requirements for your private Openstack deployment ) : Dell, Cisco, HP, Arista, Juniper, Brocade.

Rackspace and Brocade pushing ADX platform

Brocade is Rackspace partner. The company provide load balancing as well as storage solution for the company. Since Brocade ADX load balancer became standard product Rackspace sells it got a bigger momentum and traction on the market. The Gartner magic quadrants for application delivery controllers show how the company progressed and improved.

There is a new report from Gartner describing the IaaS main key player who drive the IaaS adoption and evolution as well as comparing the strengths and weakness they have.

With a little bit of history from the old Gartner's reports we can see as well as how the market has changed:

Software defined network (SDN) as an example of new evolution in networking

 In my research about SDN I have read recently a very interesting blog post about technologies in IT. The post has a strong emphasis on merging of new technologies and its later on evolution on the market. I higly recomed to take a look at the full blog that can be found here: SDN, Career choices and magic graphs

The author, Ivan Pepelnjak in his article brought together couple of terms from a field of marketing, psychology and consulting. These are the terms:

• Diffusion of innovations
• a research term coined by Gartner - Hype cycle
• Growth-share matrix

In general, in the world we know today where innovations are happening every day these concepts help to develop a little bit of wider understanding of new technologies in IT. Working as an individual it can be sometimes very overwhelming to face so many new technologies day by day. But knowing that this all belongs to a bigger picture helps to develop a health approved to it.

That said unfortunately I still didn't find the answer for my question about a future of SDN in networking but I'm definitely one step closer to it.

Rackspace is leader in managed hosting and very strong player with big potential in cloud business worldwide. It has been openly recognized by Gartner, the information technology research and advisory firm.


Managed Hosting (evaluates and includes cloud )

Rackspace as a worldwide company has been recognized in 2012 by the Gartner as a leader in Managed Hosting business. This only show and prove that the company is fully prepared and ready to host and server for even Enterprise level customers.

Public Cloud Infrastructure as a Service and

Web Hosting and Hosted Cloud System Infrastructure Services 

With all the efforts done over the last years in promoting and developing the cloud platform Openstack the company has win as well a very strong position in the Cloud market. As before Gartner had recognized and valued it in 2009 and 2011.
