Who writes OpenStack

Update:
This is link for Grizzly stats: Community Analysis — OpenStack vs OpenNebula vs Eucalyptus vs CloudStack

There are only a couple of days until the next Openstack is going to be released. The next release name is Grizzly. With every new release there are new features and new project added to the open source ecosystem backed by Openstack.

In my previous post (Code changes in Openstack Grizzly release) i tried to find out the extent of changes in the source code since Folsom release. In this post we will try to shed some light on the question who is developing and who is supporting Openstack.

For the moment Google search who wrote openstack grizzly isn't returning any useful data. I suppose everyone waits for the official final realize before conducting analysis like number of line code contributed per person, number of bug fixes, top contributors by company and others.

Each analysis looks at the data from different angel. In the reference section you can find some links with more diagrams. The one below are rather a try to create a high level view to show who develops Openstack base on the number of contributors and employee involved.

We can see that Esses was dominated by Rackspace. In the next Folsom release after 6 months Rackspace is still a top contributor but the situation changed. We see that new companies with Red Hat on top start playing more important role.
